Silko is a specialized product whose main purpose is corn silage. It is used for ensiling corn grains or the whole plant. It is of great importance due to its multiple effects and composition, which makes silage tastier and better for animals, and thus affects the ultimate quality of their milk.

For highly productive cow farms, it is extremely important that the food they consume is substantial and of high quality, since the same farms produce over 10,000 liters of milk per cow, and that amount sometimes even goes over 15,000 liters.
Silko significantly contributes to the preparation of quality feed, which is crucial for the profitability of dairy cow farms. It is obtained from plants harvested at the optimal stage of maturity (corn in the wax phase and alfalfa before flowering), and preserved in the shortest possible time (in one to two days).
Why is corn silage needed?
We highlight the most important arguments that emphasize the importance of corn silage:
Silko for corn contains homofermentative bacteria that use more than 90% of the sugar for the synthesis of lactic acid, which has strong bactericidal but fungicidal properties, important for controlling the activity of fungi (mold and yeast) in possible subsequent fermentation.
In this way, Silko for corn increases the aerobic stability of the silage after opening the silage trenches. The lactic acid produced by the lactic acid bacteria from Silk inhibits the growth of other microorganisms that are intolerant to acidic conditions (yeasts, molds, enterobacteria and clostridia, which cause silage spoilage).
As the pH value is lowered, silage losses are reduced due to the conversion of soluble plant carbohydrates in lactic acid by 96.9%. Silco for corn contains a combination of different strains of bacteria that can ferment different types of sugar in the material being ensiled, resulting in maximum utilization of sugar and production of lactic acid.
By using Silk for corn, we shorten the natural fermentation process, achieve the optimal pH value faster, reduce losses of organic matter, and improve the digestibility of NDF and ADF. This leads to an increase in daily milk yield and growth. Corn silage obtained with the use of Silk is more palatable for animals that are happy to consume it and give better quality milk.
SIlko for corn contains 4 specially selected strains of Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus buchneri, which have the ability to ferment different types of simple sugars (monosaccharides) to lactic acid, producing larger amounts of lactic acid and less butyric and acetic acid.
By applying Silka, corn silage has a higher content of dry matter and protein, and a lower content of ammonia nitrogen. This leads to an increase in feed digestibility and better growth of animals. Lactic acid has a fungicidal effect, that is, it stops the growth of mold after opening the silage, which reduces the risk of microtoxins and spoilage.
