It can develop on all aerial parts of the plant, but the first symptoms most often appear on the <strong data-start=\"394\" data-end=\"427\">lower leaves<\/strong> of older plants. <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"454\"><strong data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"454\">Symptoms of the disease<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"456\" data-end=\"490\">Recognizable symptoms include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"587\"><strong data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"520\">Round, gray-brown spots<\/strong> with clearly defined <strong data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"567\">concentric circles<\/strong> (so-called meta-spots),<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"587\"><strong data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"610\">Chlorosis (yellowing)<\/strong> around the spots, which is caused by the breakdown of chlorophyll,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"760\"><strong data-start=\"666\" data-end=\"692\">Black spots on the fruits<\/strong>, most often in places where the fruit comes into contact with the leaf or stem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"762\" data-end=\"849\">These changes not only affect the appearance of the fruit, but also its quality and market value.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"854\">\n<h3 data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"886\"><strong data-start=\"860\" data-end=\"886\">Epidemiology of diseases<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"888\" data-end=\"1126\">The pathogen <strong><em data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"907\">Alternaria solani<\/em><\/strong> overwinters in the form of <strong data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"964\"><strong data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"964\">mycelia, conidia and chlamydospores<\/strong><\/strong> in plant residues.
